A few weeks ago Emilie posted an article entitled “Scurvy and Scuttlebutt.” History buffs that we are, we knew that citrus juice was added to grog to prevent scurvy, and scuttlebutt was a synonym for gossip that originated in the navy. Little tidbits like this might not be necessary to know, but they’re interesting, and you never know when you’ll get a trivia question will require you to remember that random fact! In Ransome’s Crossing, I learned a new fact! Turpentine was used to help settle upset stomachs.
To be entered in this month’s contest, share with me some random fact you’ve learned from a historical book (or your research). It doesn’t have to be Regency Era related. Any fact, from any time period, will do. Also, as always, a comment on the interview will earn you an entry in the drawing as well.
